Hour Of Faith è un luogo di ritrovo e di preghiera di una comunità Ghanese in provincia di Brescia. Sono stato ospitato grazie a Francis Azare Kwabena, vice pastore della comunità. Francis lavora in una fabbrica della bassa bergamasca come operaio nel settore logistica. Insieme a Francis sono stato accolto con gentilezza da Charles Sarfo Boadi, pastore della chiesa.
La messa è iniziata subito con canti a tema religioso che un predicatore e una delle figlie di Francis guidavano con energia e vigore.
La sala si è fatta subito affollata e insieme a uomini e donne di tutte le età si è riempita di bambini che hanno reso ancora pi allegra e gioiosa l’atmosfera.
In tutto erano presenti una cinquantina di persone, circa 13 nuclei famigliari.
La cerimonia è durata circa tre ore, con letture della Bibbia alternate a prediche e canti, accompagnati da una vera e propria band composta da tastiere, basso, batteria e percussioni. I fedeli si alternavano sul palco per intonare i canti. Le letture e la predicazione un po’ in inglese, lingua ufficiale del Ghana, e un po’ nel dialetto Ghanese, assai difficile da capire (impossibile).
La Repubblica del Ghana è uno stato dell’Africa occidentale che ottenne l’indipendenza dal Regno Unito nel 1957; fu la prima nazione sud sahariana a farlo. La Repubblica del Ghana fa parte delle Nazioni Unite. Il Ghana è il secondo produttore mondiale di Cacao. Il Ghana fu tra i paesi pesantemente segnati dalla tratta degli schiavi verso l’America.
In Ghana convivono molte etnie, le più numerose sono : Akan (52%), Mossi (15%), Ewe (12%), Ga (8%) ed altre per il 13%, prevalentemente europee (originari dei paesi colonizzatori) ed indiane.
Il 71,2% della popolazione è di religione cattolica, tra cui il 28,3% pentecostali, il 18,4% protestanti e il 13,1% cattolici. La seconda religione è l’Islam che conta circa il 17,6% della popolazione.
La lingua ufficiale è l’inglese e poi ci sono circa 47 lingue locali o dialetti.
I Italia risiedono circa 50.000 Ghanesi, di cui il 60% uomini circa 12.000 in Lombardia.

Tra canti e cori la messa si è conclusa con una benedizione nei confronti miei e di Roberto che mi ha aiutato con il back stage per la quale ringrazio Charles e Francis
Ancora una volta una bella esperienza, ancora una volta ho trovato un pezzo di mondo dietro l’angolo di casa. Ancora una volta la mia curiosità mi ha spinto and andare un passo avanti, oltre i pregiudizi e oltre le stupide paure degli uomini piccoli.
Un ringraziamento speciale a Francis che mi ha dato questa opportunità, a Charles per la sua ospitalità, a Olivia che mi ha aiutato a capire le parole dei predicatori e infine a tutti quanti Domenica mi hanno accolto con un sorriso, una stretta di mano e una parola magica che dovremmo imparare a pronunciare più spesso: “WELCOME”.

Hour Of Faith is a gathering place for prayer of the Ghanaian community from the province of Brescia. I was hosted thanks to Francis Kwabena Azare, vice minister of the community. Francis works in a factory as a laborer in logistics sector. Along with Francis I was greeted kindly by Charles Sarfo Boadi, pastor of the church.
The Mass began immediately with songs with a religious theme that a preacher and a daughter of Francis drove with energy and vigor.
The room became crowded and suffered along with men and women of all ages was filled with children who have made even more cheerful and joyful atmosphere.
In all there were about fifty people, about 13 families.
The ceremony lasted about three hours, with Bible readings alternating sermons and songs, accompanied by a real band of keyboards, bass, drums and percussion. The faithful took turns on stage to sing the songs. Readings and preaching a little ‘in English, the official language of Ghana, and a bit’ in the dialect of Ghana, very difficult to understand (impossible).

Once again a great experience, once again I found a piece of the world near home. Once again, my curiosity pushed me a step further, beyond the prejudices and over the fears of the stupid man.

Da tempo cerco di spostare il fuoco dalla fotografia all’esperienza usando la fotografia come uno strumento attraverso il quale leggere meglio ciò che mi circonda e soddisfare la mia curiosità rispetto a al mondo, ma soprattutto alla razza umana.
